AMTA Workshops

Dear AMTA members,

We are thrilled to invite you to our upcoming workshop on April 21 at 10 am at Blissful Spirits, 4300 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, NM 87113. Our guest speaker, Dr. Janice ChenJu Chiang, will lead the workshop on the topic of “Connecting Arms Through the Center of You” using the Feldenkrais Method.

The Feldenkrais Method is a somatic education that encourages learners to search for the quality of movement to enhance the connection between body and mind. In this 90-minute workshop, you will learn an Awareness Through Movement lesson that will activate your abdominal muscles, increase breathing capacity, and find a better balance between mobility and stability. This lesson will help relieve tension in the back and improve coordination between the upper and lower extremities, guiding you to think of moving through the center of yourself as you use your arms for any tasks.

Dr. Janice ChenJu Chiang, our guest speaker, is a former piano faculty member at Northern Arizona University and a Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education practitioner. She believes that kinesthetic-inspired piano teaching and playing can bring greater positive and healthier experiences for music students while they pursue their passion. Enhancing the connection between mind and body can stimulate the brain to sparkle powerful inspiration and aspiration.

The workshop is open to everyone, and you will need to prepare by wearing casual, easy-to-stretch clothes, bringing a mat, and a bath towel that can be used as a headrest or blanket. The movement is very gentle and safe, and you will be given frequent rests during the lesson.

Please let us know if you plan to attend by replying to this email by April 15, 2023. Knowing how many people will attend will help us prepare accordingly.
